Hocktober : a homage to my hero David Hockney

I LOVE David Hockney.

In 2017 I visited Saltaire for the first time and loved the place and seeing more of his work in that setting was stunning. But the thing I was struck by was the marvellous book shop and seeing photos of Hockney and just seeing how flipping cool he is!
So for the past 4 years, I dedication the month of October to my love of Mr Hockney and his sartorial magnificence.

Welcome to HOCKTOBER…

I LOVE DAVID HOCKNEY
I reckon I've been a life long fan.
I remember first seeing his drawings and prints when I was at school and they just made me fizz. I feel for his line and his composition.

I can distinctly remember several life affirming moments in which David features...

I remember visiting at least 2 solo exhibitions of his at the RA just with my dad, on an artist's date, and it was lush, going round an exhibition with someone who has the same kind of respect for an artist is rare. We both acknowledge his mastery of line and love his pen and ink stuff, we are both seduced by his amazing constant making and through his proliferation of work have been hypnotised by his colour, work ethos, curiosity and his bloody brilliant big paintings of the important stuff like people and trees!

When our daughter Ursula was born and about 8 weeks old, we went to see Hockney's "bigger picture" exhibition at the Royal Academy, I was obviously excited... I'd been looking forward to seeing Mr Hockney's new paintings in real life & I was keen to start our little girl's life right, by hanging out in galleries, filling her life with colour and stimulating a love for DH, but I hadn't quite prepared myself for my response...
OK... So admittedly, I had just had a baby, so hormones are all over the shop, but... I walked into the first room and was embraced by a huge painting and I just burst into big sobbing joyful tears. I was overwhelmed, by the size, the colour, the energy, the attention, the devotion, the power of these massive paintings and just vibrated with it all -the love and joy I was filled with.
Thanks David Hockney. I love you.

Photo credits: Felix Hayes, my patient husband took most, some are by me and a few are taken by our daughter Ursula. Loads of other unnamed professionals also feature- who I have naughtily taken screen shots of their images for the purposes of this project. I hope you understand that I use them with love and respect. xxx
